8am – An Incomplete History of Midwest Ice Climbing” Eric Landmann
Join guide book author and Midwest pioneer Eric Landmann, for a presentation that will focus on the growth of ice climbing in the Upper Midwest including Northern Ontario in the heydays of the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. This was a time where ice climbing really took off, gear advancements came rapidly, many new routes were done, guidebooks were published, regional Ice Fests became a thing, and there was a growing awareness of the sport.
9am – Enormocast with Chris Kalous
Chris Kalous has created and hosts two climbing podcasts: the venerable Enormocast, and the irreverent Runout Podcast. But more importantly, Kalous has been climbing full-on for 33 years. From sport climbing to big trad, boulders to big walls, and yes, even a bit of ice, Chris has climbed on 5 continents and put up first ascents worldwide. With Midwest roots and a Colorado heart, his love of climbing and knowledge of our near-sacred pursuit runs deep.
